KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that educational institutions play pivotal role in our lives, therefore we must pay back to our alumni for their uplift and support of deserving students.

“My government is working hard to reach each and every brilliant student so that their education may not remain incomplete for want of money.”  Addressing first award of Ma’jee scholarship ceremony organised by NED University to award Ma’jee Scholarship to deserving students of their University at local hotel CM recalled his old days when he had got admission in NED.  Murad Ali Shah said that he had won two scholarships for his double masters in USA and “Alhamdulillah I have repaid both scholarships so that another deserving student can avail them,” he said. “I am sure that distinguished guests are wondering why this scholarship programme has been named Ma’ Jee,” he questioned and then replied through this programme, NED and NEDIAN aimed to realise dreams of mothers who have not been able to afford education for their children at prestigious NED University.

CM said that endowment fund meant for scholarships was not merely financial support for deserving students, but it was an initiation, a symbol and a celebration of bond between mothers, their children and university/institution. Murad said that compassionate and dotted hearts of mothers right from birth of their children dreamt of brilliant careers for them, only letting sky be their limit. CM congratulated NED University administration, alumni and donors for taking such commendable initiative for establishing fund with Rs 70 million seed money that has translated into scholarships.

NED has distributed scholarships to 105 NEDUET deserving students amounting to Rs 100,000 per student per year from this fund.  CM said that he has been told that custodians of fund have plan to raise fund to Rs 500 million, thereby scholarships for over 750 deserving students at University every year.  Vice Chancellor NED University Dr Sarosh Lodhi, NEDIAN Association office bearers, Aftab Rizvi, parents of students and students attended.
