KARACHI: The Consumer Association of Pakistan (CAP) has expressed concern over the growing trend of frozen food sellers charging customers for the weight of ice along with the product.
CAP Chairman Kukab Iqbal emphasized that this practice is unacceptable and urged the government to take immediate action to prevent it. Iqbal pointed out that while the government regulates prices for fruits, vegetables, and groceries, frozen food sellers are being given a free hand to charge customers unfairly. He questioned whether the relevant authorities, such as the Food Authority and the Bureau of Supply, have ever inspected the premises of frozen food manufacturers to ensure they comply with health and safety standards.
qbal demanded that the authorities take immediate action to inspect frozen food manufacturers and ensure that they provide clear information about the quality, quantity, and expiration dates of their products.
He also emphasized the need for the authorities to educate consumers about the benefits and drawbacks of consuming frozen food. Furthermore, Iqbal warned frozen food sellers that they must clearly label their products with manufacturing and expiration dates and provide clear information to consumers about the weight and price of their products, excluding the weight of ice. He urged the provincial governments to take immediate action to prevent unfair pricing practices by frozen food sellers.
