KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Pakistan Customs has seized a smuggled and duty-unpaid Honda Civic car from the NMB Wharf area of Karachi following credible intelligence regarding its illegal importation.
According to the official seizure report, the action was carried out on December 6, 2025, at around 9:00 pm, after ASO officials received information that a smuggled Honda Civic was parked near Kamran Chowrangi, Gora Gotha, District East. An ASO team reached the spot, conducted surveillance, and identified the suspected vehicle.
The seized vehicle was identified as a Honda Civic, model year 2006, with an engine capacity of 1339cc, silver in color, bearing registration number AWW-458.
During the operation, an individual present at the scene, Tahira Mushtaq wife of Mushtaq Ahmed claimed ownership of the vehicle. As detailed in Para 11.2 of the seizure report, the ASO team formally informed her of the inspection process and requested original legal documents to substantiate the vehicle’s lawful import and customs clearance. Despite repeated requests made on the spot, Tahira Mushtaq wife of Mushtaq Ahmed failed to provide any valid documents, verbally stating that the vehicle was legally procured and that she would submit the supporting documents within two to three days.
However, subsequent verification through the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) database revealed no record of legal import of the vehicle. Furthermore, a forensic examination conducted by the Police Forensic Division, Sindh, reported that no engine or chassis number could be deciphered from the existing markings.
In view of the available evidence, Customs officials seized the vehicle under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969, on charges of smuggling and evasion of government duties and taxes. The seized car was valued at approximately Rs. 3.57 million, while the evaded duties and taxes amounted to about Rs. 6.65 million, bringing the total value to over Rs. 10.22 million.
The vehicle has been shifted to the ASO Headquarters, NMB Wharf, Karachi, for further legal proceedings. Customs authorities confirmed that the case has been registered under applicable sections of the Customs Act, and further investigation is in progress.
