Lahore: Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran made history in Lahore, smashing 177 off 146 balls against England to record the highest individual score in ICC Champions Trophy history.

His innings eclipsed the previous record of 165 set by England’s Ben Duckett just days earlier in the same tournament. Zadran's knock, laced with 12 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 121.23, powered Afghanistan to a formidable 323/6 in 49.1 overs.  His innings was instrumental in steadying the team after early setbacks, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6), Sediqullah Atal (4), and Rahmat Shah (4) falling cheaply.

The right-hander built a crucial 129-run partnership with skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (40) before accelerating in the final phase alongside Azmatullah Omarzai (41 off 31) and Mohammad Nabi (40* off 23). He eventually fell in the last over, caught by Jofra Archer off Liam Livingstone. His knock now stands ahead of legendary innings in Champions Trophy history, surpassing the likes of Nathan Astle (145* in 2004) and Sachin Tendulkar (141 in 1998). With a daunting total on the board, Afghanistan will now look to their bowlers to deliver a famous win.
