Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has vowed to strengthen security measures after a spectator invaded the field during New Zealand’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24.

The individual, carrying a photograph, ran onto the pitch and hugged New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra during the run chase. Ravindra, who was in fine form, visibly distanced himself from the intruder before teammate Tom Latham joined him to assess the situation. The broadcast cameras did not show the pitch invader, but the commotion was evident. The security lapse has raised concerns, particularly with Pakistan hosting the marquee ICC event. 

The PCB, in an official statement on Tuesday, confirmed that the individual was arrested, presented before a court, and permanently banned from entering any cricket venue in Pakistan. “Ensuring the safety of players and officials remains our top priority,” the PCB stated. “We have engaged with local security agencies, who have committed to increasing security personnel around the field of play at all venues and strengthening access control measures.”
