PM Shehbaz attends B'desh's 50 years of UN membership event

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended ceremony celebrating Bangladesh's 50 years of United Nations membership at invitation of Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were ministers Khawaja Asif, Atta Tarar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi. Dr Muhammad Yunus warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz and Pakistani delegation.
Both Pakistan and Bangladesh, during event, agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors and discussed expanding bilateral relations. Bangladesh officially joined United Nations on September 17, 1974, becoming 136th member state.
Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in various sectors, since joining UN, including human development, economic growth and social reforms while being strong advocate for global issues such as climate change, poverty alleviation and women's empowerment.
Meanwhile, in conversation with journalists at United Nations, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over situation in Middle East. He said recent attack in Beirut, describing it as an attempt to escalate the conflict.
Warning international community, he said that attacks on Lebanon could have devastating consequences for peace-loving world. He emphasised need for global condemnation of Israeli actions, stating that these attacks are pushing conflict beyond Middle East and could have severe repercussions worldwide. When asked about resolving crisis, Shehbaz Sharif said that two-state solution for Palestine is only viable path.
