KARACHI: Elections in the Karimabad Ismailia Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited ST-2 have been repeatedly delayed, leaving members frustrated and losing patience. Meanwhile, an illegal administration has taken control of the society. The Registrar’s Cooperative Department office has also allegedly been involved in illegal and improper activities, even though it is supposed to carry out its duties according to legal powers and responsibilities.
The officials of the illegal committee, including Secretary Imran Arwan, have been found involved in public fraud through the booking and sale of the KA-8 welfare-based development project. At the same time, construction work is ongoing in the K-4 extension without a plinth verification certificate. According to sources, the Registrar’s Department and SBCA are not only supporting this activity but are also directly involved in the construction work.
According to the engineer’s report, the 27-year-old buildings in K-4 and K-5 have weak beams and columns, which could pose a serious risk to human lives once new construction begins. In addition, the temporary NOC for the KA-8 building has been canceled due to rule violations. However, these dangerous activities are continuing without interruption due to SBCA’s failure to take action.
Registrar of the Cooperative Department Sindh is responsible for supporting the officials of this illegal committee. Department staff have also created obstacles in the elections, which caused Election Officer Rabia Khan, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies-II, to fail in carrying out her duties for the 2025 elections of Karimabad Society.
Due to the negligence of the election officer, neither the final voter list could be released nor the election schedule announced. Repeated requests from the members remained limited to formal procedures only, while there was no practical intervention from the Registrar, and the failed election officer was not replaced. As a result, the elections have been completely suspended.
This entire situation has made it clear that the Cooperative Department is involved in the society’s problems, which has weakened the system of law and justice, and people have lost trust in the administration. The members of the society have demanded that the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, take immediate legal action against the Cooperative Department and corrupt officials so that the members’ rights are protected, the society’s system is restored, and the members of Karimabad Society are rescued in time from this sinking ship.
