UN Military Advisor assures COAS Bajwa of full support to flood victims

RAWALPINDI: In a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa United Nations Military Advisor General Birame Diop assured “full support” to flood victims in Pakistan, reported Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to military’s media wing, General Bajwa called on General Diop during an official visit to US.

During meeting, two discussed matters of mutual interest as well as overall regional security situation in Pakistan, including devastation caused by floods across country.

General Bajwa appreciated role of office of UN military advisor in promoting core UN values and their response during crises, said ISPR. General Diop expressed his grief over devastation caused by floods in Pakistan due to climate change and offered sincere condolence to victims’ families. According to ISPR, UN dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions and “extraordinary achievements” in counter-terrorism. Earlier, government decided to take an additional $ 600 million from UN for rehabilitation and recovery from devastating floods.

UN has said that number of people in need of help in flood-hit areas is much higher than what has been reported.
