KARACHI: The Trucks Axle Load Regime implemented under the National Highway & Safety Ordinance (NHSO-2000) to ensure compliance to adhere when transporting containers or cargo to and from various destinations.

In this regard a description of permissible weight limits for trucks are outlined in NHSO-2000. According to these limits about 12 different categories of trucks is defined ranging from 17.5 tonnes to 61.5 tonne load having 2 axle single trucks to 6 axle tandem-single-tandems of twelve wheelers and size 2400mm x 3600mm. For this purpose all sections of road users and stakeholders are advised to strictly implement the Truck Axle Load Regime by Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Commerce and Karachi Port Trust. They have issued several reminders to ensure compliance with this Axle Load Regime. Additionally, terminals have also circulated advisories on this matter.

Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCCA) has been also advised by Karachi Gateway Terminal (Private) Limited to disseminate this information with their members and customers, urging them to adhere to the Axle Load Regime by assigning suitable transport carrier based on the weight of their consignments when transporting containers or cargo to and from the Terminal.

This will help prevent any potential inconveniences during transit. Their cooperation in adhering to the axle load regime is not only essential for legal compliance but also reflect a commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of the road infrastructure and its users, the advice added.
