Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organised book launch ceremony of renowned writer, intellectual and journalist Mahmood Sham’s self-written book ‘Sham Bakhair’.

Event was presided  by Dr. Amjad Saqib while President Arts Council Ahmed Shah, Mahmood Sham, Dr. Syed Jafar Ahmed, Syed Sarmad Ali Aftab Memon, Mehnaz Hasan Zaidi and via video messages, Professor Akhtar Al-Wasee (Delhi) and Dr. Amber Aabid (Delhi) expressed their thoughts.

Shakeel Khan was moderator of event. 12-year-old Arush Fatima recited excerpts from Mahmood Sham’s book.

Ahmed Shah said that Sham’s self-written book is not just about Sham himself, but it’s also narrative of Pakistan. He mentioned how he was witnessed country since its independence, emphasising that Sham, being great writer and thinker, always writes about what he has experienced in his life.

He praised Sham’s ability to report amidst gunfire, highlighting how rapidly science is advancing, which was once civilisation dominated by research. He mentioned how politicians used to seek advice from Sham, stating that if he ever gets opportunity, he would love to have chat with Sham.

Dr. Amjad Saqib stated that love is inherent in our souls and without love, we cannot live. He emphasised that love is essence of poetry and a source of strength. He expressed his admiration for Sham’s work, stating that there is much to learn from him.

Dr. Jafar Ahmed praised Sham’s book, saying it contains prayers, memories, dreams, successes, protests, desires to die and desires for migration. He noted that there are very few who have gone through such struggles and book is written for today’s youth.

In video message, Tarun Vijy said that Sham’s pen spreads fragrance all over world and his voice in poetry and compositions is unparalleled. He invited Sham to India and expressed hope for his book to spread message of love between both countries.
