Commerce Minister reiterates commitment to support steel industry

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce Dr. Gohar Ejaz reiterated his commitment to support steel industry and ensure its growth for industrial growth in country. Dr. Gohar Ejaz firmly stated that path forward for steel industry and other sectors in Pakistan lies in relying on indigenous raw materials, which aligns with government's broader vision of self-sufficiency and economic growth, said press release issued here.

 Zaigham Adil Rizvi CEO of National Steel along with delegation from steel industry called on Minister at the Commerce Ministry. Purpose of meeting was to address and resolve impediments to growth of steel sector, vital component of Pakistan's industrial landscape.

 In context of safeguarding local industry, Commerce Minister discussed possibility of tariffs on imported steel products, indicating willingness to explore this option.

 He stated, "I will help you find marketplace solutions for your problems." Minister stressed importance of sourcing raw materials locally to reduce financial burden on national exchequer and promote self-reliance in steel industry.

 He emphasised need for value addition in all sectors and outlined plans to enhance competitiveness of Pakistan's exports. "We will make our exports highly competitive and focus on industries in which Pakistan has comparative advantage," he stated.

Representatives of steel industry underscored significance of affordable energy for their operations. Dr. Ejaz responded positively, assuring delegation of his close collaboration with Minister for Energy to address this concern effectively.
