Dar briefs President Dr Alvi on overall economic situation

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Ishaq Dar briefed President Dr Arif Alvi on overall economic situation of country. During call on, he also highlighted steps taken by government to provide relief to most vulnerable segments of society, President Secretariat Press Wing said in press release.

During meeting, various matters concerning finance, economy and rehabilitation of flood affectees were also discussed. Ishaq Dar seeks Arif Alvi’s help in winning over PTI on IMF programme: sources Dar discussed ongoing political situation including dissolution of assemblies and implementation of International Monetary Fund’s agreement.

Incumbent coalition government and opposition have been holding talks regarding date of general elections and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s claim of dissolving Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.  According to sources, dissolution of provincial assemblies and resignations also came under discussion, said sources. Both leaders talked about next general elections in country, said sources, adding that they also discussed KP and Punjab government’s cooperation concerning reduction in import bills.  Sources added that Dar asked for opposition’s support regarding implementation of International Monetary Fund’s agreement. 

They discussed PTI’s cooperation in bringing political stability to country, said sources. They added that President assured Dar of talking to PTI leadership concerning all these matters. Leaders also considered matter regarding closure of markets at 6pm countrywide, as per sources. 

Incumbent government and opposition have been holding talks regarding date of general elections as PTI has been constantly putting pressure on government to conduct snap polls.  Confirming that PTI had held talks with coalition government, Fawad said that Dar held two meetings with President Alvi. “Ishaq Dar told President that government is ready for elections, but they first need to consult Nawaz Sharif,” former Information Minister revealed.
