Digital economy vital for sustainable development: Ahsan Iqbal

BEIJING: Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal shed light on importance of growing digital economy, termed digital economy is vital to ensure sustainable development of country. He is on four-day visit to China.

Speaking at panel discussion titled, 'Industrialisation and Digital Era Connectivity,' organised by China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) here-special commemorative 12th Joint Cooperation Committee to mark 10- year celebrations of China Pakistan Economic Corridor he said, importance of "Industrialisation and Digital Era Connectivity," have transformed world as both have brought unprecedented opportunities for progress, economic growth and global connectivity.

However, he emphasised harmonisation in digital policies and standards by stronger collaboration through multilateral forums.

He said that digital connectivity has revolutionised communication and collaboration in industrial sectors. E-commerce platforms and online marketplaces enable businesses to reach customers worldwide, expanding their customer base and opportunities for growth, explained Minister.

Highlighting E-Pakistan, an important E of 5Es framework which was launched recently by Planning Ministry he highlighted digital connectivity has provided businesses with ability to access larger markets beyond their immediate geographical boundaries.

Similarly, he said that combination of industrialisation and digital connectivity has opened up new avenues for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Startups and small businesses can leverage digital platforms and technologies to reach global markets and disrupt traditional industries, remarked minister. Highlighting key initiatives which was taken by government include establishment of national centres in Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, automation and robotics, big data and cloud computing, quantum computing and nanotechnology.

Highlighting unremarkable contributions of China in field of industrialisation, he said that developing nations can draw several lessons from China's experience with industrialisation and digital-era connectivity." China has undergone remarkable economic growth and technological advancements, making it valuable example for developing countries," he said.
