KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori visited Liaquatabad Furniture Market, where he was welcomed by President of Furniture Market Muhammad Owais Farooqui and local citizens.
Shopkeepers of market informed Governor about their challenges, particularly related to parking and electricity load-shedding. Governor Tessori assured shopkeepers that their issues would be resolved, immediately instructing DC Central to address parking problems.
During media interaction after visit, Governor Tessori highlighted promising growth of Pakistan's furniture industry in recent years. He noted that Liaquatabad Furniture Market plays an essential role in economy, with Pakistan exporting approximately $ 39 million worth of furniture in fiscal year 2021.
United States is largest market for Pakistani furniture, accounting for around 39 percent of total exports, while countries in Middle East, such as Qatar and UAE, also have high demand for Pakistani furniture.
He emphasised significance of supporting businesses and addressing issues like parking and power shortages, stating, "Traders face dilemma of whether to run their businesses or struggle with these problems." He reiterated his commitment to improving nation's economy and providing employment opportunities, stating, "We have everything we need-resources.
Our military keeps our borders safe but foreign adversaries don't want to see us prosper. Our youth, like Shehzaib Rind, have defeated terrorists in Balochistan through their skills. I urge 62 percent youth of our nation to keep working hard, as results will follow. We must become economically stable and move forward."
He expressed his optimism about Pakistan's progress in IT sector, stating, "Pakistan will make its mark in IT field and this province and city will soon be known as an IT hub."
He announced resolution of Independent Power Producers issue, stating that all IPPs will be revisited, leading to reduction in electricity tariffs. Governor said, "This city and province belong to us and we are its custodians.
Doors of Governor House are always open to public for resolution of their issues." He announced special quota for Liaquatabad's youth in IT classes, aiming to empower local population with better opportunities in technology sector.
