Karachi: Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) organised consultation workshop at MD Secretariat Karsaz regarding establishment of Environmental and Social Cell of Water Corporation.

Objective of conducting workshop is to address any information gap and to finalise formation of Environmental and Social Cell of Water Corporation, objectives and scope of workshop study were to identify all environmental and social aspects relevant to mandate and services provided by Water Corporation, review laws and regulations of Sindh province and Pakistan related to mandate and services of Water Corporation, identify international best practices in field of water and sewerage services, review Water Corporation’s environmental and social policies procedures and guidelines and to assess existing environmental and social institutional structure, physical, human resources, capacity of Corporation to manage environmental and social aspects during design, implementation and operational phases of projects, in addition to this, road map is to be prepared for establishment of an environmental and social cell in accordance with ongoing institutional reforms in Corporation.

Workshop discussed background of study by World Bank consultants and how to fill knowledge gaps offered by study and there was also debate on setting of environment. Chief Executive Officer Corporation Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, Syed Imran Iqbal Zaidi, Khurram Shahzad, Sikandar Zardari, Aftab Alam Chandio, Intekhab Ahmed Rajput, Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Syed Amir Rasheed, Ghulam Siddique Magsi, Sajid Nizam, Abdul Ghani Shaikh Syed Sardar Shah and World Bank consultants participated in consultation workshop.
