Interior Minister decides to launch joint operation in riverine areas

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi decided to launch joint operation in riverine areas to combat lawlessness and gangs of dacoits who use region to conduct criminal activities.  In meeting of National Action Plan Implementation Review Committee held at National Counter-Terrorism Authority headquarters, meeting was attended by federal interior secretary, head of NACTA, Federal Investigation Agency director-general as well as inspectors general and home secretaries of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

National Coordinator of NACTA and various intelligence agencies personnel were also present during high-level meeting. Meeting focused on providing new technology to police forces to better their performance and the participants reviewed security measures for Chinese citizens. IG of each province further provided comprehensive briefing on security protocols in place for safety of Chinese nationals.  Interior Minister emphasising paramount importance of safeguarding Chinese citizens, directed all security agencies, including police to “Ensure 100 percent adherence to standard operating procedure.” He warned that any negligence would not be tolerated in this regard “Strict disciplinary action will be taken for negligence in implementation”.

Moreover, meeting deliberated on foolproof security arrangements required in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore during visit of Iranian President. While discussing forthcoming joint operation in riverine areas, he said, “Evil elements will be permanently eradicated [from kacha areas] with joint operation.” He confirmed that modern technology, including drones, will be utilised during operation. He acknowledged progress made in recent months, noting significant reduction. He urged all agencies to enforce strict legal measures against traffickers through collaborative approach.
