KARACHI: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said media in country was playing role of fourth pillar of democracy. In meeting with delegation of Karachi Press Club here at Governor House, he said government supported freedom of media in country.

He said incumbent government soon after assuming office took steps to clear outstanding dues of media houses with aim to provide much-needed relief to journalists and media workers. Meeting discussed various matters pertaining to welfare of journalists and media workers.

Responding to their invitation, Tarar assured KPC office-bearers that he would visit Club soon to address their concerns directly. KPC President Saeed Sarbazi underscored Karachi Press Club’s significance saying that it was one of country’s largest clubs with rich history of working for flourishing democracy.

KPC President and General Secretary Shoaib Khan apprised Minister of challenges and problems being faced by workers of both print and electronic media.  Minister handed over cheque of Rs one million to KPC President Saeed Sarbazi at Sindh Governor House.
