PASTIC organises workshop to empower journal publishers’ community

Karachi: Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) Karachi organised one-day training workshop on ‘Open Journal Management System (OJS)’ at Latif Ebrahim Jamal National Science Information Centre (LEJNSIC), ICCBS Karachi University. Workshop aimed to empower journal publishers’ community with modern journal publishing tools and techniques.

PASTIC is premier organisation for collection and dissemination of scientific and technological information to cater to information needs of scientific community at national level. Training activity drew significant number of participants from various universities and organisations, with over 65 consortium members and more than 20 additional participants joining session via zoom meeting.  Training session commenced with recitation of Holy Quran, followed by welcome address from Afsheen Tariq Assistant Director of PASTIC Karachi. Tariq provided an overview of PASTIC services and highlighted newly developed databases beneficial for researchers, setting tone for session and emphasising event’s significance.

Saifullah Azim, Project Manager at PASTIC Islamabad introduced project titled ‘National Digital Archive of Research Published in Pakistani Journals.’ He outlined project’s objectives, achievements, and ongoing plans, providing insight into its significance for research community in Pakistan. Dr. Adnan Amin faculty member at Centre for Excellence in Information Technology at Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar conducted hands-on training on OJS as resource person. Dr. Amin provided practical guidance on application of OJS and addressed queries from editors, offering fruitful solutions. This training equipped participants with valuable knowledge and skills to utilise OJS effectively for publishing needs.

During closing session, Prof. Dr. M. Raza Shah (T.I), Professor at ICCBS and Editor of Journal of Chemical Society of Pakistan, served as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Shah commended training objectives, acknowledged efforts of Project Manager and praised expertise of Dr. Adnan Amin. Dr. Syed Tufail Hussain Shah Director at National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh Jamshoro, expressed gratitude towards PASTIC for organising training activity and appreciated the initiative taken by PASTIC and dedication of entire team. Chief Guest recognised efforts of organisers and resource person by presenting them with shields, while certificates were distributed to participants to acknowledge their attendance and active participation in training activity.
