President visits Nowshera to oversee flood relief activities

NOWSHERA: President Dr. Arif Alvi visited Nowshera district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. During visit, district administration briefed President about flood on Mardan Bridge and told him that around one hundred and fifty thousand people were affected by flood in Nowshera area and 100 relief camps have been set up to help them.

They said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has doubled aid amount for flood victims.  President was informed that due to timely notification of flood, population was moved to safer place in time.              

President asked provincial government to accelerate process of rehabilitation of flood victims and reconstruction of houses. He stressed on necessary steps for helping flood-affected people. Dr Arif appealed to nation to help flood victims with open hearts. He commended role of Armed Forces, civilian institutions and welfare organisations for providing relief to flood hit people." Meanwhile, yesterday" U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a video message that Pakistan is awash in suffering as the United Nations launched an appeal for $160 million to help the South Asian nation.

"The Pakistani people are facing a monsoon on steroids - the relentless impact of epochal levels of rain and flooding." Guterres will head to Pakistan next week to see the effects of the "unprecedented climate catastrophe," a U.N. spokesperson said.
