KARACHI: Zameer Ahmed Abbasi Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh superseded Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (KIMCSL) with immediate effect and appointed Shahmir Khan Qazi as its Administrator to run affairs of society for period of two years from date of his order March 26, 2024.

He shall exercise all powers of managing committee in accordance with provisions of registered Bye-Laws of society, Cooperative Societies Act-2020 and Cooperative Societies Rules 2020.

He is further directed to hold detailed and comprehensive enquiry into affairs of society w.e.f. May 9, 2023 to till today by providing opportunities to all concerned.

In his order Registrar mentioned that affairs of the Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited were not being managed in accordance with provisions of registered Bye-Laws of society, Cooperative Societies Act-2020 and Cooperative Societies Rules 2020.

Election of President and members of the managing committee were conducted on May 7, 2023 and newly elected managing committee took over charge on May 9.

Millions of rupees were being spent for construction of project but details of project were not provided to cooperative department. In this regard various complaints had been received by department, Registrar alleged.  It was found expedient to hold an enquiry into constitution, working and financial condition of society. Therefore, this office has issued an order to conduct said enquiry vide order February 14, 2024 from date of taking over charge by newly elected managing committee.

Chairman of society has filed complaint against enquiry which merits consideration, order added. Daily National Courier had already disclosed last year that bunch of illegally occupying, unlawful membership of Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited Administration Committee had announced to build new flats in Society, while legal residents had blown whistle against this scam last year.

Dwellers said that this was another episode of corrupt practices to grab open plots on society land and misappropriate their funds, which was highly condemned.

Society members had appealed Governor Sindh to take cognisance of this serious scandal being run with connivance of corrupt officials of Registrar of Societies Office.
