CM Murad approves $4.1m for modern cyberknife machines

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced grant equivalent to $ 4.1 million Patients Aid Foundation (PAF) to replace old Cyberknife machines and equipment with latest technology at Jinnah Post Medical Centre (JPMC) so that patients from all over country could be benefited.
Speaking at signing ceremony of agreement between Sindh government and Patients’ Aid Foundation for developing working partnership for different projects, particularly Cube knife here at local hotel CM said that he has been told that Cyberknife facility has waiting list of around 2,000 patients. He announced Enhancement of Annual Grant to Patients Aid Foundation from Rs 340 million to Rs 540 million from next financial year.
PAF installed two Cyberknife and Tomotherapy which were jointly operated by Sindh government and PAF. He said that to make this historic partnership formal, Patients’ Aid Foundation and government have signed an agreement for 25 years to operate various facilities at JPMC. Cyberknife Unit Chief Prof Tariq told me that he still has waiting list of around 2,000 patients.
Cyberknife Unit head Prof Tariq Mahmood said that initially, JPMC was mostly treating brain cancers but due to awareness in public, that Cyberknife was best and safest treatment to cure stage-1 prostate cancer compared to surgery, therefore number of patients was increasing at rapid pace.
Parliamentary Secretary on Health Qasim Siraj Soomro said that government has developed health facilities all over province where quality treatment was being provided free of cost.
Executive Director JPMC Prof Shahid Rasool thanked chief guest, CM, donors and PAF for their unflinching support to make JPMC one of world’s best health facilities.
