ISLAMABAD: Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said that fertilizer companies must not be allowed to take undue profit.

Steps should be taken to ensure uniform price of urea fertilizer across country for convenience of farmers, he directed while chairing meeting of Fertilizer Review Committee. Besides Federal Secretary of Industries and Production and agriculture secretaries of four provinces, meeting was attended by representatives of Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Engro, Fatima Fertilizer Company and Kisan Ittehad, news release said.

He regretted that fertilizer companies had raised prices of urea without realising plight of farmers. He asked companies to roll back increased urea prices on their own, or otherwise government would fix same. All fertilizer companies and dealers would have charge same price of urea, he reaffirmed, adding government had decided to get conducted third party audit to determine their cost of production and profit margin.

Minister said government was committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to fertilizer industry.
