Larkana: Firing fresh salvo at PTI-led 'Grand opposition alliance', PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that they are hatching conspiracy against country under garb of poll rigging claims.

Bilawal made remarks while addressing public gathering here Bakhsh in Larkana in connection with 45th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“Many forces did not believe in democracy. They used to hatch conspiraciesbut President Asif Ali Zardari foiled their designs.”

Taking veiled jab at six-party opposition alliance, he said that some politician wanted to launch PNA-II even today. Pakistan National, nine-party alliance was launched in 1977 against Bhutto-led government. Without naming Imran Khan, Bilawal said that some politicians play with fate of country and people for sake of “Personal ego”.

“Now they are hatching conspiracy against country and its economy by beating drums of [electoral] rigging,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto conveyed heartfelt condolences for tragic loss of lives resulting from multiple accidents amidst heavy rains across various regions of nation, notably Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He voiced his concern regarding incidents of lightning strikes exacerbated by changing climate conditions during inclement weather.

In statement, he lamented loss of lives caused by lightning strikes as well as other rain-related incidents in South Punjab, including its districts Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahimyar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Lodhran. He urged provincial government to deploy all available resources to fulfill its duty in aiding rain-affected victims throughout Punjab.

He urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and related disaster management agencies to provide immediate assistance to rain victims, aiding citizens trapped in various problems including landslides.

He highlighted surge in lightning incidents nationwide as indicative of climate change, emphasising imperative role of universities and research institutions in addressing this issue.

He underscored necessity for exceptional spirit and leadership at government level to shield citizens from climate change impacts. Bilawal Bhutto stressed that confronting threats posed by climate change demands substantive action rather than superficial discourse or avoidance.
