IGP stresses ‘improvements’ in criminal justice system to control street crimes

KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon stressed need for improvement in criminal justice system to punish offenders especially those who commit street crimes in Karachi.

Speaking at an iftardinner, Ghulam Nabi Memon said that criminal justice system’s “Flaws” are also major contributing factor to province’s rising crime rate and that police department alone cannot be held accountable for it.

“Police arrest robbers and others involved in criminal activities but they are released (by courts). In all this situation, police department is not only one to be blamed,” provincial police chief.

He asserted that in order to reduce crime, criminal justice system must be improved. Ghulam Nabi conceded that street crimes in Karachi and other lawlessness in katcha area are major law and order issues.

“Police will take every possible measure to maintain law and order to ensure safety of people,” he added. IGP said that good work of police department also need to be highlighted and appreciated.
