Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami staged sit-in outside Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor House here against increase in electricity and petroleum prices, as well as rising inflation.

JI workers have placed containers near museum located near Governor House for party’s three-day sit-in. JI’s Amir, Sirajul Haq has also arrived in Peshawar for sit-in.

“Our protest movement is peaceful and not aimed at causing chaos; instead, it intends to compel government to roll back unjust increase in prices of electricity and petrol,” JI spokesperson said.

He said that JI will also approach Supreme Court against excessive increases in electricity and petrol prices.  JI has also announced protests in Lahore on September 21, in Quetta on September 24 and in Karachi on October 6, all in front of governor houses to continue their anti-inflation campaign.

Sirajul Haq disclosed JI’s plans for second phase of their protest movement, which will target expensive electricity and excessive hike in fuel prices.

JI leader highlighted how inflation had stripped people of their basic necessities, including shelter, clothing and food.  He asserted that PTI, PDM, PPP and caretaker government were aligned in “Serving” interests of International Monetary Fund.
