Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called upon international community to pressure Israel to halt its “Oppression of Palestinians”, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

In his message on International Al-Quds Day-observed on last Friday of Ramadhan to express solidarity with people of Palestine struggling against Israeli occupation-PM strongly denounced Israeli atrocities in Gaza. Premier noted that more than 32,000 Palestinians, including 17,000 children, had been killed and 70,000 others injured since Israel launched its offensive in Palestinian enclave in retaliation to October 7 surprise Hamas attacks. Hospitals, refugee camps and children’s schools have deliberately been targeted and access to humanitarian aid has been blocked, he added. PM Shehbaz regretted that despite ceasefire resolution passed by UN Security Council, unprovoked bombing of innocent civilians in Gaza was still continuing, report stated.

He asserted that Pakistan would continue to provide “Moral and diplomatic support to armless Palestinian brothers and sisters until liberation of Palestinians from Israeli occupation and establishment of an independent Palestinian state according to pre-1967 borders”.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif will leave for Saudi Arabia today where he will perform umrah. According to sources, premier will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and discuss investment in various projects. It is reported that $ 1 billion investment in Reko Diq and other projects will be finalised in meeting. Sources said that Prime Minister will also invite Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to visit Pakistan.
