PTI challenges Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment as interim Punjab CM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf moved Supreme Court (SC) against appointment of opposition nominee Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Petition filed by PTI as political party has been moved by PTI General Secretary Asad Umar. Party has urged Supreme Court to stop Naqvi from working as caretaker CM. In petition, PTI has also challenged appointments of ECP members and Raja Riaz as opposition leader in National Assembly.

Federal government, National Assembly Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf, leader of opposition Raja Riaz, governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Election Commission and Punjab caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi have been named as respondents in case by PTI. According to petition, Mohsin Naqvi does not have necessary “Intellectual and relative experience as well as characteristics” needed to be appointed at top slot. Equal or better-suited candidates were available and had not been considered consciously, petition read. Petition states that Naqvi has no political, administrative or legal experience in ensuring rule of law, working of governments, bureaucracy, requirements of law and/ or Constitution.
