LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Punjab chapter has applied to deputy commissioner, seeking permission to hold political rally at Lahore’s Shalimar Chowk.

Application has been submitted by party’s Punjab leader, Shahzad Farooq. It has been argued in application that PTI is largest political party in country and has won most votes and the most seats in February 2024 general elections.

“PTI also has full freedom to hold peaceful rallies and gatherings. PTI has organised rally on April 19 at Shalimar Chowk which should be allowed,” application said. Party leader requested for issuance of permit for PTI to hold rally on April 19.

Speaking to journalists, Farooq said that PTI’s rally at Shalimar Chowk on April 19 would be historic one. “Senior party leaders will address gathering,” he said.

PTI leader expressed hope that party would again win seat it had won on February 8 in by-election to be held in Lahore constituency on April 21. “We will defeat those who were declared winners on Form-47,” Farooq said.

Joint committee has been created under PTI Punjab leadership to arrange rallies effectively. This committee is tasked with devising comprehensive strategies to ensure success of rallies. PTI Punjab leader Hammad Azhar revealed lineup of members comprising committee. Among them are Rehana Dar, Mehar Bano Qureshi, Zartaj Gul, Seembia Tahir and Kanwal Shuzab.
