LAHORE: Former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah ruled out possibility of an alliance between Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in upcoming general elections.

Interacting with group of reporters here, he hinted two parties might agree to seat adjustment formula on limited level, but even such an electoral adjustment was highly unlikely.

Sanaullah, to query said it was PPP’s right to critique his party which, according to him, was calculated move and was in line with their electoral strategy. “In run up to elections, such political narratives spring up, but often these are devoid of truth and reality.”

Asked about PPP’s concerns on transfers and postings on large scale ahead of general elections, Sanaullah said these transfers and postings started after commencement of interim government and notion that it was being done at someone’s behest was completely out of place.

In response to another question, Sanaullah said elections would take place in last week of January or in first week of February according to Constitution.

In reply to question Sanaullah affirmed that like any other political group, PTI reserved right to engage in politics. He however advised PTI to distance itself from elements associated with May 9 events, underscoring significance of exhibiting responsible political demeanour.

To question about Nawaz Sharif’s return, Sanaulah said from legal perspective, disqualification of Nawaz Sharif had already ended and as far as his sentence was concerned, cases brought against former Prime Minister were quite weak.

“Nawaz Sharif will file review appeals against his sentence and he will certainly be acquitted.” Sanaullah said Nawaz Sharif would be accorded splendid welcome upon his return to country on October 21.
