KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) served notices to respondents in case related to fee hike in Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST). A student Muzzamil moved SHC against 50 percent hike in fees in Law Department of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology.

Muzzamil in his plea stated that as per law, 10 percent fee can be increased yearly, but same has been jacked up by 50 percent on ‘verbal orders’. Student in his plea further stated that fee structure of various departments has been revised and massive increase has created problems for students.

Meanwhile, Lahore High Court declared fee hike during study programme in private medical colleges, illegal. Decision was pronounced by Justice Shahid Jameel after hearing pleas challenging increase in fees by private medical colleges during ongoing programmes. LHC directed Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to ensure collection of fees from students decided during enrollment in respective programme.
