Karachi: Former Pakistani legendary batter Younis Khan urged national cricket team to play for sake of country.

According to details, Khan highlighted the pressure to play cricket in home conditions, saying, “There is always a pressure to play cricket in home conditions. What is the benefit to the players if they cannot absorb the pressure? There is a dire need for the players to boost their morale.” He expressed his thoughts in line with the pitch conditions during the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, saying, “Everybody has seen that whether the pitch was fast or slow.” Recalling the team’s victories in the foreign conditions, Khan said: “We have clinched victories at that time when no international cricket was happening in the country.” Khan was of the view that the changes in the domestic structure had led to debacle. “I have no idea why the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has talked about having no talent in domestic cricket,” he said. The former national team captain had acknowledged the local talent, saying, “We are having immense talent in our domestic cricket.”

Speaking about the appointment of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Khan said: “The cricket should uplift with the appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC chief.” “Jay Shah needs to show the sportsman spirit, as with the good initiatives of the ICC chief, India can come to Pakistan to play cricket. In the same way, Pakistan can visit India.”
