ISLAMABAD: Chairman NAB Aftab Haider has tendered resignation from his office and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has accepted his resignation. Talking to private TV channel Chairman NAB Aftab Ahmad told, “I have met PM. PM has expressed good wishes for me. I have too good wishes for him. I tendered resignation few days before. I was asked about some things which were not acceptable to me. I told that I cannot continue my job with these conditions.

There are some compulsions as well. Upon it PM has accepted my resignation. Our end has occurred at good turn. I wanted no such work is done by me which leads to raise question on institution. I always did my job as per law and merit.

As per sources Aftab Sultan was in favour of doing things in accordance with law. He was under pressure to make arrests. Under NAB amendment Act powers of chairman were curtailed. He had reservations over it. On curtailment of powers, Aftab Sultan had refused to do work under some one will and whim.

He did not want to play role like former Chairman NAB Javed Iqbal. Aftab Sultan is from Police service Pakistan and he is grade-22 officer. He worked on vital posts including DG IB. He had taken over charge as Chairman NAB in July 2022 following retirement of Chairman NAB Javed Iqbal. Case of amendment in NAB law is pending hearing with Supreme Court. Aftab Sultan had assigned duties in different bureaus under new NAB law. On petition of Islamabad High Court bar, Islamabad High Court had ordered all cases pending hearing in court will be heard by larger bench following amendment in NAB law.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted resignation of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Aftab Sultan. Aftab Sultan presented resignation to Prime Minister citing personal reasons. Prime Minister appreciated services of Aftab Sultan and lauded his honesty and uprightness.  Aftab Sultan was appointed as Chairman NAB on July 21, 2022, for three years. A statement issued by Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Aftab Sultan had presented his resignation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif citing personal reasons.  “Upon his insistence, Prime Minister reluctantly accepted resignation of Aftab Sultan, Prime Minister Office said. “I had resigned from office few days ago. “I was asked to do certain things which were not acceptable to me,” Aftab Sultan said while talking to private news channel. “I told them that I cannot continue with conditions”, Aftab Sultan said.
