ECP to announce verdict over delay in Karachi LG polls today

KARACHI: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will pronounce its reserved verdict over delay in Karachi Local Government (LG) elections today. ECP on November 15 reserved verdict over delay in Karachi LG polls. Verdict was reserved by country’s supreme electoral body after hearing arguments from both sides.

Last week, Sindh High Court ordered Election Commission of Pakistan to immediately release schedule for LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad. Reserved verdict on pleas filed by Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf seeking immediate LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad, court ordered Sindh government to provide security and other facilities for LG polls. Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan moved SHC seeking delay in Karachi and Hyderabad LG polls until new amendments in LG Law.
