Gas prices increase on horizon ahead of IMF deal

ISLAMABAD: Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is expected to approve increase in prices of gas in wake of government’s negotiations with International Monetary Fund. Session of ECC under chair of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar commenced to deliberate move. New price will take effect from January 1, 2023. Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) already announced increase in gas prices.

Earlier, power distribution companies filed an application in National Electric Power Regulatory Authority seeking permission to collect an additional Rs 17 billion in electricity consumer bills as government was scrambling to appease IMF by imposing new taxes on public to unlock next $ 1.1 billion tranche of $ 7 billion loan.
