A local court in Islamabad has granted bail to journalist Khalid Jamil, who was arrested on charges of disseminating inflammatory content against state institutions on social media platforms.

Khalid Jamil, the bureau chief of a private news channel, was apprehended at his residence in Media Town, Islamabad. Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand has allowed his release on post-arrest bail, requiring a surety bond of Rs50,000.

Earlier, Khalid Jamil had been placed under judicial remand for 14 days in this case, but he contested his arrest. The First Information Report (FIR) against him accused him of sharing and spreading highly alarming content and tweets on social media platforms, including X. The charges against him include violating Section 505 (making statements that lead to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). The FIR alleged that his actions were detrimental to Pakistan.
