KARACHI: President of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Salman Aslam and chairperson of KATI’s Standing Committee for Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Nighat Awan expressed concern about non-availability of water by KWSB especially in Korangi Industrial area.

They demanded Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah to take notice of provision. In joint statement, they said that there is a flood situation across country due to recent rains, all dams are overflowing, yet Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has stopped water supply in Karachi and even today they are doing patronage of tanker mafia. They demanded immediate action from Chief Minister and Local Government Minister against corrupt officials of Water Board.

They said that industrialists and people are forced to buy tankers at exorbitant prices for use even in this situation, which is proof of incompetence and corruption of Water Board. They said that instead of supplying water to Karachi, water board is allowing sea to consume precious water but they are not supplying it to people who are facing severe shortage. They said that if corrupt officials provide water available in dams to people of Karachi, especially industrial area, not only water shortage in city will be removed, which will also stop overflowing and flood situation will be avoided.

It will also be possible to save valuable property and resources of people. With proper planning, abundant water could have been provided to citizens and precious water could have been saved from being carried away to sea while avoiding flood situation, they added.
