Launching ceremony of Hangor-class submarine held in China

Wuhan: Launching ceremony of first Hangor-class submarine constructed for Pakistan Navy took place in China’s Wuhan. Navy said in statement.
It said that Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf as chief guest attended event. He highlighted importance of maritime security under prevailing geo-strategic environment in region and commitment of Pakistan Navy to contribute to ensuring safe and conducive maritime environment for all.
He said that Hangor-class submarines with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors will play pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in region.
While acknowledging tireless efforts of China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company Ltd, he expressed satisfaction with project’s progress. He highlighted that project will surely add new dimension to ever-tested Pakistan-China friendship.
Statement said that government of Pakistan signed deal with CSOC of China for acquisition of eight Hangor-class submarines during visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan.
Under contract, four submarines will be built in China whereas other four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd under Transfer of Technology.
These submarines will be fitted with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors to engage targets at standoff ranges.
Launching ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from Pakistan and China including representatives of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd and China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company Ltd.
