ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has directed Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to refund Rs 139,860 to complainant who had been wrongly issued an additional demand notice for installation of an electricity connection along with transformer due to cost escalation.

President issued these directions while deciding upon representation filed by IESCO assailing order of Wafaqi Mohtasib directing IESCO to refund amount to complainant Haji Akhtar Raheem and adopt proper procedure/rules/regulation, which were violated by IESCO, resulting in maladministration.

IESCO had violated its own procedure by not installing connection within 30 days and later sent an additional demand notice to complainant, who had already paid original requisite amount, on account of escalation of cost of material. Complainant had applied with IESCO for an electricity connection along with 25 KVA transformer.

Subsequently, demand notice of Rs 305, 656, including cost of allied material was issued to him. He deposited amount, however, IESCO instead of installing his connection timely, issued an additional demand notice of Rs 139,860 on account of escalation of cost of material.

After personally hearing case and going through record of case, President directed IESCO to refund amount to complainant.
