ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has directed Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) to issue instructions to Shifa International Hospital Islamabad (SHIFA)-one of biggest hospitals of capital to refund an amount of Rs 2.9 million to daughter of patient who died due to medical negligence, professional misconduct and malpractice of doctors of hospital.

President upheld imposition of fine of Rs 900,000 as maladministration and medical negligence had been proven against Hospital, President Secretariat Press Wing said in press release. According to reports, President issued these directions while rejecting representation filed by IHRA against orders of Wafaqi Mohtasib (WM) in which Mohtasib had held that complainant (deceased patient’s daughter) had been discriminated against as in similar case in past, IHRA had not only imposed fine on SHIFA but had also issued directions to Hospital to refund amount in lieu of medical bills. He ordered that refund should be paid within week to complainant.
