KARACHI: The Registrar of Cooperative Societies Sindh has ordered a special general body meeting to hold elections for the President and all managing committee members of Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited. Mr. Irfan Hussain, Inspector Cooperative Societies-IV, Karachi, has been appointed as the authorized election officer, who will prepare the election schedule within 60 days according to the society's registered by-laws.
The members of the society expressed serious concerns against the current committee. They said they had informed the Secretary of the Cooperative Department in writing many times that the committee’s legal term ended on 7th May 2025. However, despite this, the committee was neither removed nor were proper steps taken for transparent elections.
Members also accused the committee of misusing society funds, making false promises, and failing to carry out development work. In the past two years, the committee promised to give new houses to the original allottees, but all these promises remained only on paper. No member has received a new house, and there has been no real progress in any development project. People are still living in old, broken, and unsafe houses, facing basic problems like water, sewage, electricity, and security issues.
While speaking to the Daily National Courier, members said that transparent elections are not possible unless the current committee is formally removed. They added that until elections are legally completed and the new elected management takes charge, only utility bills and employee salaries should be paid. Members also demanded that the society’s bank accounts should be temporarily frozen to stop unnecessary spending and financial mismanagement.
