Capital’s private hospitals refusing treatment to HIV positive patients

ISLAMABAD: It had been revealed that private hospitals in capital were not providing health facilities to patients fighting with HIV disease, ‘National Courier’ has learnt.

When contacted senior official of Islamabad Health Care Authority (IHCA) admitted reality and said that private hospital in capital were treating HIV positive patients. He, however, said that authority had recently written letters to all hospitals of city to provide health facilities of HIV people like other common patients.

He said that IHCA was ready to provide technical support to hospitals in this regard. Official said that HIV patients could approach authority for their complaints and their identity would be kept secret. Official said that young men and boys who tested positive for HIV need psychological help because as several of them could have suicidal thoughts and some even attempted it’s after being diagnosed HIV positive.

He said that HIV is now treatable disease and now patients can live normal life if they took medicine on daily basis, their basic tests done and seek medical treatment, which is free of charge at government hospitals.

Official disclosed that around five thousand people with HIV positive were registered with HIV treatment Centre at PIMS Islamabad. However, number was raising day by day as two to three people are being tested positive for HIV at PIMS lab. Most who tested positive last couple of years are young and educated men.
