CEO KWSB asks officials to monitor, take steps to tackle impending cyclone

Karachi: CEO KWSB Syed Sallahuddin Ahmed issued instructions to authorities to take emergency measures in view of cyclone and rains, according to spokesperson of KWSB, all chief engineers have been instructed to be in contact with other relevant departments including Provincial Disaster Management Authority, all districts SE and EE have been directed to show better performance while remaining in their respective areas along with their subordinate staff.

Whereas orders have been issued to cancel vacations of all officers and employees of KWSB to deal with any emergency situation, besides Chief Engineer Sewerage Aftab Alam Chandio has been appointed as focal person for rain emergency. 1339 Complaints Centre/Customer Service Centre, Block A Ninth Mile Karsaz Shahrah-e-Faisal has been designated as focal point for rain emergency operations, while rain emergency complaint centres will be established in all districts and different towns, CEO KWSB issued further orders to officers. He said that all machinery including getting, suction, rodding, sewer cleaning machines, dewatering pumps should be kept ready at all times.

Water Board Bulk transmission system, canal, siphon, conduit and other important installations should be strictly monitored and all filter plants including Dhabejee, Gharo, Pipri, NEK, Hub Pumping Station and all Sewage Pumping Stations should be closely monitored, In addition to this, all other pumping stations in District South including CPS Pumping Station should be patrolled round clock and all pumping stations of water supply and drainage should be kept running with help of generators in case of non- supply of electricity, CEO KWSB said. Citizens should not open manhole covers to drain rainwater into sewerage pipelines, because opening cover of manhole will stop flow of sewage which will cause problems to citizens.
