EFP celebrates 9th employer of year award, Minister Turi praises private sector role

KARACHI:  Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) hosted consecutive 9th Employer of Year Award to acknowledge and recognise best practices of corporate sector. Around 31 organisations from multiple sectors were awarded for their exceptional performances and responsible business practices in areas of human resource management, skill development, occupational safety and health, industrial laws compliance, corporate social responsibilities, inclusivity women empowerment and sustainable development goals.

Sajid Hussain Turi, Minister of Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Department distributed awards to winning companies. He highlighted importance and role of private sector in promoting best business practices and supporting vulnerable sector of society. He urged private sector and employers’ community for their support and contribution to flood-affected people who at present are in dire need of support for their rehabilitation and earning their livelihood. He assured support and that government would go extra mile to be of assistance to private sector and EFP in creating culture of compliance and promoting business in Pakistan. Ismail Suttar President EFP emphasised how it is essential for our industry to comply with international standards to be able to compete in global market.

Suttar highlighted importance of industrialisation and that development of local industry is only solution to address challenges of creating employment, reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development. He stressed need for local industry to comply with local legislation and international standards to remain competitive in global market. Manzoor Khaliq Officer in Charge International Labour Organisation in Islamabad appreciated efforts of EFP in promoting business and culture of compliance in Pakistan.

ILO and EFP jointly are implementing several programmes and initiatives for achieving goal of decent work, implementation of international labor standards and protection of workers.  Zaki Ahmed Khan Vice President EFP briefed participants about award credentials by EFP and how it is considered to hold international standards in several areas of corporate and general management. CEO of Year Award was given to Faheem Haider, Managing Director of Mari Petroleum Company Limited and Shahid Mehmood Khan Managing Director, Pak-Arab Refinery Limited. In multinational category winners, 1st prize Nestle Pakistan Limited, 2nd to J&P Coats Pakistan Limited, 3rd to Dubai Islamic Bank Limited.  In large national category winners, 1st prize to Mari Petroleum Company Limited and Pak-Arab Refinery Limited, 2nd to Meezan Bank Limited, 3rd to K-Electric Pvt. Limited. 

In medium national category, 1st prize to International Steels Limited, 2nd to Attock Refinery Limited, 3rd to Agriauto Industries Limited. In SMEs category, 1st prize to Lotte Chemical Pakistan Limited, 2nd to Asia Petroleum Limited and 3rd to Harbin Electric International O&M.
