Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan lawmaker Taha Ahmed Khan submitted resolution in Sindh Assembly seeking compensation for victims of street crimes.
Resolution, expressing concern over rising incidents of street crimes in Karachi, stated more than 50 people have lost their lives since start of year.
“House understands that most of those killed at hands of street criminals were youth, belonging to underprivileged section of society, which is already under economic stress due to financial situation of country.”
Resolution acknowledged that most of those who lost their lives were sole breadwinners of their families and proposed that compensation be given to next of kiln of victims.
“Since Sindh government has failed to protect lives of its citizens, therefore House hereby resolves and recommends compensation of Rs 05 million to family of deceased, government job to one heir of family as per their qualifications and educational expenses for children, if applicable.”
It further expressed concern that Karachi is deprived of Safe City Project, noting that other major cities of country have such project in place to monitor city through CCTV cameras. “House hereby recommends immediate initiation of ‘Safe City project’ in city, starting from districts of city more vulnerable to street crimes, rather than Red Zone of city where already protected VIPs reside,” said resolution.
