KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan started formulating strategy to hold protests over ‘controversial’ Local Government (LG) polls, flawed delimitations and voter list. Sources said MQM-P is mulling to hold sit-in for an indefinite period in Karachi against ‘controversial’ LG polls.
MQM-P is likely to announce sit-in during general worker’s meeting. MQM-P leadership will finalise venue of sit-in among Numaish Chowrangi, Karachi Press Club and Fawara Chowk. MQM-P will demand to address reservations regarding ‘biased’ delimitations of towns and union councils besides nullifying recently held LG polls in 16 districts including Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions. MQM-P expressed reservations regarding delimitations and voters lists ahead of second phase of Local Government polls in Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions. After MQM-P’s demand, Sindh government announced to postpone Karachi and Hyderabad LG polls, however, Election Commission of Pakistan rejected provincial government’s notification to postpone polls and held polls as per schedule on January 15.
