Pakistan attaches key importance to relations with US: PM Shehbaz

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, replying to letter by US President Joe Biden said that Pakistan attaches key importance to relations with United States.

In Biden’s first official correspondence with any Pakistani premier in years, US president said Washington will continue to stand with Pakistan to tackle most “Pressing global and regional challenges.”

Premier, according to statement released by Prime Minister’s Office stated that Islamabad wants to work with Washington to achieve common goal of global peace and security and also development and prosperity in region.

PM Shehbaz maintained that two countries are working on important initiatives in fields of energy, climate change, agriculture, health and education. He welcomed cooperation between two countries in energy sector and Green Alliance Initiative.

Although Pakistan is no longer priority for US after its withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, South Asian nation remains key in terms of regional security and counter-terrorism efforts.

While American civilian leaders have had an indifferent attitude towards Pakistan in recent years, American military establishment still wants working relationship with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed resolve to work for social uplift and integration of all minorities. I extend my heartful greetings to Christian community of Pakistan and around world on Easter, he said in message.

He lauded immense contributions of Christian community in struggle for creation of Pakistan and its socio-economic development and firmly believed that they would continue to play their proactive role in progress and stability of Pakistan.
