ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued directions for payment of cash assistance of fifty thousand rupees per family to flood-affected people within three days.

Chairing a meeting of Flood Relief Coordination Committee here, he said an amount of 50, 000 rupees instead of 30,000 rupees should immediately be provided to all flood hit families.

He instructed that Benazir Income Support Programme should provide cash assistance of 50, 000 rupees under supervision of National Disaster Management Authority.

He emphasised on ensuring transparency in provision of relief assistance to affected people. He said cash assistance should be provided through electronic transfer to ensure that beneficiaries get their right.

Prime Minister directed that a joint survey in cooperation with provinces for assessment of losses due to recent floods should be completed in three instead of five weeks. Shehbaz Sharif said that provincial governments should ensure coordination with NDMA at earliest regarding joint survey to ensure timely assistance of flood affected people. He, however, said it is prerogative of provincial governments to participate in relief efforts of federal government for flood affectees.
