Prominent religious figure shot dead in Islamabad

Islamabad: Leader of Sunni Ulema Council Pakistan and prominent religious figure Allama Masoodur Rehman Usmani was killed during an attack here.

Spokesperson has confirmed that armed individuals opened fire on Usmani’s vehicle in Ghauri Town which resulted in tragic demise of religious figure.

Upon receiving reports of incident, significant police presence swiftly arrived at scene. Body of deceased has been transported to PIMS Hospital for further examination.

Confirming identity of victim, Islamabad Police spokesperson, in statement said that suspects involved in attack will be apprehended soon and brought to justice.

He said that perpetrators are being traced with help of CCTV cameras, adding that one person was also injured during firing. Soon after incident, members of Sunni Ulema Council gathered outside PIMS Hospital and started protesting, after which additional police personnel arrived.

Incident marks another instance of religious figures being targeted in recent past. Day earlier, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl candidate for general elections survived bomb attack when his vehicle was targeted with remote-controlled device in Bajaur.
