Karachi: PPP Vice President Sherry Rehman opposed gas price hike. She said exorbitant increase in prices of Sui gas at time when people were facing worst inflation was condemnable and unjustifiable.

Interim government has given approval to increase gas prices and decision will be implemented from November 1.

Government statement said around 57 percent of consumers would be considered in protected category for which prices had not been increased and they would pay Rs 400 fixed price.

However, consumers using from 0.25 to 1.5 hectare cubic meters gas would be paying Rs 1,000 per month and consumers of two to four HC and above would be paying fixed charge of Rs 2,000 per month. Petroleum Division spokesperson said had government not increase gas prices, gas sector circular debt would have shot up to Rs 400 billion.
