Islamabad: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said that purpose of social media and propaganda is to spread uncertainty, chaos and despair, adding that it is imperative to research about news being shared on social media.

COAS said without research and positive thinking, society remains embroiled in chaos. Army Chief made these comments during his historic address at Pakistan National Youth Conference at Jinnah Convention Centre here.

Gen Munir said he was greatly pleased to address future builders of Pakistan. He said that purpose of creating Pakistan was that its religion, culture and civilisation were different from those of Hindus in all respects, instead of citizens adopting Western civilisation and culture.

“Youth should have immense confidence in their country, nation, culture, civilisation and themselves,” Army Chief stressed, adding that youth of Pakistan should be sure that they are children of great homeland and nation.

Gen  Munir said youth of Pakistan were guardians of bright traditions of this nation and country and an interpretation of dreams of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

He insisted that Pakistan Army could fight against terrorists, but cooperation of entire nation was necessary against terrorism. “Researching news on social media is critical. Without research and positive thinking, society remains in chaos,” he remarked. He then quoted verse from Holy Quran that roughly translated to mean that if transgressor brought them news, it should be confirmed.

He then likened establishment of Pakistan to that of state of Madina, saying both were founded on basis of Kalima Tayyaba. “God has blessed Pakistan with abundant mineral resources, agriculture and young manpower,” he added. He said Pakistan’s forces were always ready to tackle any kind of threat and conspiracy. “We exist because Pakistan exists.

If there is no Pakistan then we are nothing,” he added. He stressed that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty. “We need to have full faith in bright future of Pakistan and maintain legacy of our ancestors,” he added. During speech, students raised slogans of ‘Pakistan Army Zindabad’, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad’.
